Pharmacodynamics:
chloroxylenol medication is a phenol substituted antiseptic agent and disinfectant products for the intended external use. It is known to be bactericidal in low concentration to a large range of gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
Pharmacokinetics:
The hydroxyl group (-OH)group of the chloroxylenol molecule binds to proteins on the cell membrane of bacteria, and disturb the membrane so as to allow the contents of the bacterial cell to leak out. This allowed the drug chloroxylenol to enter the bacterial cell and interact with other proteins and enzymes to terminate the cell's activity. At particularly heavy concentrations of chloroxylenol, the protein and nucleic acid content of targeted bacterial cell function, leading to rapid cell damage and death. A portion of the chloroxylenol that is absorbed into the body is probably metabolised by the liver and quickly eliminated, primarily in the urine as conjugates of sulphate and glucuronide.
